Changing and Cleaning Respiratory Disposables

OXYGEN TUBING

• Clean - Wipe with a damp cloth if soiled. DO NOT attempt to soak tubing or run water through it.
• Change - Discard every 90 days. More frequently if it becomes twisted or kinked.

NASAL CANNULA

• Clean - Wipe with a damp cloth daily. DO NOT attempt to soak cannula or run water through it.
• Change - Discard every 2 weeks. More frequently if you have a cold.

HUMIDIFER

• Refill - Use distilled water only. Discard unused water and refill daily. Do not overfill.
• Clean - Once per week, soak in a 1-to-3 mixture of white vinegar and water for 30 minutes. Rinse well with water.
• Change - Discard every 30 days.

TUBING

• Clean - Wipe with a damp cloth if soiled. DO NOT attempt to soak tubing or run water through it.
• Change -
  Disposable kits – discard every 2 weeks.
  Reusable kits – discard every 6 months.

NEBULIZER CUP & MOUTHPIECE

• Clean - After each treatment, disassemble nebulizer, rinse with warm water, let air dry on a paper towel. At the end of the day, soak in a 1-to-3 mixture of white vinegar and water for 30 minutes. Rinse well with water. Let air dry on a paper towel. Reusable may be put into a dishwasher (top rack only).
• Change -
  Disposable kits – discard every 2 weeks.
  Reusable kits – discard every 6 months.

TUBING

• Clean - Suction up a small amount of water after each use to clear tubing. At the end of the day, soak suction tubing in warm soapy water.
• Change - Discard every 3 months.

CANISTER

• Clean - Discard contents daily into toilet. Wash canister daily in warm soapy water. Every 3 days, soak canister in a 1-to-3 mixture of white vinegar and water for 30 minutes. Rinse well with water.
• Change - Discard every 3 months.

FULL FACE MASK, NASAL MASK or NASAL PILLOWS

• Clean - Clean mask cushion or pillows daily with a warm, soapy water. Use a mild dish soap. Disinfect every 7 days. Soak mask with cusion in a 1-to-3 mixture of white vinegar and water for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water. Disinfect daily if you have a cold or respiratory infection.
• Change - Replace entire mask every 3 to 6 months.*

HEADGEAR or CHINSTRAP

• Clean - Hand wash in a mild fabric detergent if soiled. Allow to air dry.
• Change - Replace every 6 months.*

TUBING

• Clean - Disinfect every 7 days. Soak in a 1-to-3 mixture of white vinegar and water for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water.
• Change - Replace every 3 to 6 months.*

HUMIDIFIER CHAMBER

• Clean - Empty water daily and replace to full line using ONLY distilled water. Disinfect every 7 days by soaking humidifier in a 1-to-3 mixture of white vinegar and water for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water.
• Change - Replace every 6 months.*

PAP FILTER

• Clean - Remove black foam filter and rinse under warm water once per week. Dry with paper towel before installing.
• Change - Replace every 6 months.*
